The vale is now mostly empty, with a handful of living villages and towns scattered over this wide area. Abandoned farmsteads, ruined manors, and broken keeps litter the countryside. Bandits, wild animals, and monsters roam freely throughout the vale, threatening anyone who fares more than a few miles away from one of the surviving settlements. Travel along the roads or river is usually safe- usually. But every now and then, travelers come to bad ends between towns. Curbing these unhappy encounters is the recently noted presence of a few brave protectors. Mysterious folk that show up in the wilds or on the roads at times when caravans or the such are being harassed by bandit or beast. These ‘Avengers’ as the locals have termed them are a welcome site to those victims whose only desire during these trips is to get where they’re going safely.
The Nentir Vale begins at the western border of Norgon and sees its way just beyond lake Nentir in the east. Fallcrest, Norgon’s seat of authority is perched both on the cliffs of the Fire River and at its based on the south side. Other notable locals in the vale are Hammerfast to the south, Winterhaven to the north and the Barony of Harkenwold to the southwest. Nentir can experience heavy snowfall in winters and strong funneling winds through the Vale towns. The Fire River is too big to freeze except for a few weeks in the coldest part of the year. Summers are cool and mild.
